Measurement and ROI is always on the minds of companies especially when it comes to sales and marketing. Here’s a simple way you can scan your tweet stream to see how many folks have clicked on a link you’ve tweeted.

Below is a tweet I sent out promoting genYTO. I sent it out at yesterday using a bit.ly link to track clicks. As of this post there have been 203 clicks [press Ctrl + to enlarge picture].

Using Bitly and Twitter to track link clicks

Here’s how to do it.

1) Set up a bit.ly account
2) Install the preview plugin
3) Convert the URL to a bit.ly url
4) Tweet what you want to share and why it’s worth someones time to read it. [This is the most important requirement of tweeting].
5) Hover over the link within your tweetstream

This is a great use-case for how to embrace very simple metrics with free tools like bit.ly to track the ROI on dropped links in various social networks. Much like trying certain keywords for google Ad’s you could in fact create a unique URL for each social network pointing to the same URL, and watch which social networking site is pushing traffic your way. Great quick post Chris ;) Keep it up
